FAQ

I cannot send mail from Outlook or Outlook Express.

If it's something that just started after choosing a new internet provider (or if you have never been able to send mail), it is possible that your ISP is blocking port 25, which is used to send mail. SBC and Comcast are most famous for this, but there are others as well.

To test this:

Press Start/Run and enter:

telnet://mail.yourdomain.com:25
(or the server IP if your domain is not pointed to us)

Press 'return' or 'enter' on your keyboard.
If the port is not blocked, you should see a DOS window open up and a response starting with the '220 ' string will appear. If you do not see this message, your ISP is blocking port 25 and you will not be able to use Acorn Host's standard mail servers to send mail. You can try using your ISP's outgoing mail server, as the incoming and outgoing mail servers do not have to be the same. Please contact us if you really need to use our mail servers to discuss alternate ports.

If you do see the 220 string, this is not the problem, and please contact Technical Support for more help.
